Working Together to Save Salmon
The TSSC is collaboratively developing the Thompson-Shuswap Salmon Ecosystem Action Plan (The Ecosystem Action Plan). Read here for more detail on why and how we are creating this plan, as well as our timeline and progress.
We are using the following outline as the structure for The Ecosystem Action Plan. This outline was created by the TSSC Steering Committee with feedback from our partners in workshops and meetings. The outline may be revised as we receive further feedback.
This chapter introduces the Thompson-Shuswap region and Secwepemcúl’ecw: the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc Nation. It includes a Secwépemc Knowledge Statement and a Vision Statement collaboratively developed by the TSSC and the Thompson-Shuswap salmon community. The purpose of the plan and its development is also described.
This chapter offers a high-level overview of the Thompson-Shuswap region, its focal waterbodies, salmon populations, their ecosystems, and the key challenges they encounter.
This chapter outlines the goals and objectives of the Plan, explains how they were developed, and describes how priority actions to address these goals and objectives were identified.
This chapter provides additional details for each focal waterbody within three ‘Major Watersheds’ in the Thompson-Shuswap, including key salmon and steelhead habitat features, threats, and pressures. Recommended actions to address these threats and pressures are provided for each focal waterbody.
This chapter describes conservation and restoration priorities, outreach and education opportunities, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and future research and assessment needs. Cross-cutting recommendations are not tied to a single focal waterbody and will apply to multiple areas across the Thompson-Shuswap.
This chapter provides the next steps for implementation of the plan, including timelines, champions, and potential funding sources. Guidance for future monitoring and adaptation of the plan is also provided.
